The Abbey Yung Method might change your hair for the better.

The winter of 2026 has been one of the harshest in modern history, making it the perfect time to try a new haircare system designed to soothe a dry scalp and strengthen brittle hair. One such system taking social media and the internet by storm is The Abbey Yung Method.

If you haven’t heard of Abbey Yung or her methodology, it is a science-backed hair care routine focused on improving hair health through consistent, multi-step wash days, bond repair, and scalp care. It emphasizes using both drugstore and high-end products, frequently includes clarifying shampoos to remove buildup, and often incorporates pre-shampoo oils and bond-repair treatments.

Technically, none of this is new information, but it’s information most people didn’t have, which Abbey has explained and organized in a way that makes it both palatable and accessible.

My personal experience with The Abbey Yung Method:

I'm one of those people who, in all my years of washing my hair, never understood haircare ingredients or their functions. And, I most certainly never thought drugstore brands were in any way comparable to pricier salon-grade products. So, with my winter hair dry and breaking, no matter how much I deep-conditioned, Abbey Yung and her methodology quickly caught my attention.

I chose a handful of products I could integrate seamlessly into my wash day without feeling overwhelmed. I was excited to try something new, since what I had been doing clearly wasn't working. So, I went slide-by-slide and either chose one product from each step, or skipped a step that seemed overwhelming or unnecessary right now.

First, here’s Abbey’s method:

Now, here’s how I chose to use it.

  • First, I clarified my hair with the Paul Mitchell Shampoo Three I already had.

  • Then, I gave myself a deep conditioning treatment with OGX Bond Protein Repair in Step 6.

  • After 30 minutes, I washed my hair with the L’Oreal EverPure shampoo in Step 4.

  • Followed by the matching conditioner in Step 6(2).

  • Once I was out of the shower, I sprayed my hair with the OGX Bond Protein Repair leave-in conditioner in Step 8.

  • Afterward, I blow-dried, then added the OGX Bond Protein Repair serum in Step 10.

My results were shocking:

With a few deliberate adjustments to my weekly wash routine, I noticed an immediate difference. Instead of chasing moisture alone, I shifted my focus to bond repair, and my hair responded beautifully. The ends felt smoother, the texture more even, and throughout the week, it stayed light, soft, and clean-smelling without feeling coated or heavy. It’s also worth mentioning that I use a shower filter to reduce chlorine and mineral buildup, which makes a noticeable difference over time.

The following week, I experimented with the order — deep-conditioning after shampoo and conditioner, rather than before. The results were just as strong. A trim from my stylist shortly after sealed the deal.
