This past week, I hit a wall. My emotional, mental, and physical bandwidth plummeted, and I found it difficult to get as much done as I had in the weeks before. Speaking of the weeks before, I'd been on fire! Blog posts, daily emails, weekly recaps, social media posts, household chores, self-care, fitness, marital relations –– I was getting it all done and doing it well.
And then...nothing.Read more
This past Sunday, several members and I met for a group coaching session entitled, Honoring our Limitations. During our two hours together, each member and I discussed circumstances in our lives that limit our abilities to accomplish what needs to get done, when it needs to be done, or at all. During the session, it was important that I helped our sisters to understand that having limitations is to be expected and respected. I am a strong believer that we can do and be everything and anything we wish, ofcourse! However, none of us can give 100% to more than one thing at a time. Even in mathematics, this is impossible. So, I developed a 3-prong approach to making friends with our constraints, instead of always pushing against them, and recorded this coaching session for you to watch!Read more
2018 is almost over, and what a spectacular year it has been! This year, I found myself doing a few things I would have never done had it not been for my decision to say, "Yes," to almost everything I would usually deny. Though I have not yet read, Year of Yes by Shonda Rhimes, the concept of saying yes more often to the events and people who stand to enrich my life, intrigued me.
So, I gave it a whirl.Read more
Every end-of-year at The Gorgeous Girl's Guide, we purge –– and this year is no different. Well, actually, it's sort of different. This year, we are going deep. This year, this month, this week, right now, we are throwing out everything and everyone that no longer serves us, and we're not gonna think twice about it –– starting with people, bad habits, and doubt.
Are you ready? Because there is no procrastination in shifting. There is no overthinking in getting your shit together. What there is, however, is lots of doing, lots of cutting, and tons of focusing and moving forward.
Remember, complacency is a killer.Read more
Anyone who has been a member of The Gorgeous Girl's Guide over the past 18 months, has come to know how much I absolutely hate procrastination –– as a word and as a practice. Just as this is true, so is my love of the practice of patience in all areas of our lives. And even though these two states of being may seem to be one-in-the same to someone from the outside looking in, they do indeed differ greatly. So, as we prepare for a new year, and any time you find yourself preparing for a shift, it's going to be important that you never confuse the two.Read more
It never ceases to amaze me how many people love a sad story, whether it's yours or theirs. You are more likely to find people who revel in your failure rather than your success. They will pretend to feel so very bad for you when they assume your boss called you into her office to fire you, but then, get awfully quiet when you tell them you're actually been given a promotion. Some people want to go on-and-on about their bad days, their illnesses and misfortunes, and no matter how uplifting or supportive you may be, no matter how many resolutions you offer, they will offer you that same old song.Read more
As the holiday season rolls along, some of us may be experiencing a number of emotional episodes and overwhelm. Getting together with our families can prove stressful, as we sit around a table with people who we haven't seen in months or years, questions and accusations hurling. Then, there is the familial dramas that have been waging on for decades, since before you were even born! Everyone wants to know when you're getting married, or why you don't want to have children, why is it taking you so long to finish school, or why in the world you would want to move away from all of this.Read more
As I write this, the end of the year is just five weeks away, and there is a sense of urgency in the air at The Gorgeous Girl's Guide. It has been a year filled with exciting changes for us –– beginnings and endings, plans and goals, aspirations and affirmations. This has been a life-changing journey for me, turning my blog site into a membership site, as well as developing and refining our courses. I have been taking online courses and tuning in to hour-after-hour of webinars, learning how to pivot in my business, and in my personal life. I am doing what I have always taught you all –– I am shifting. And during this shift, hard work is just as necessary as rest, which brings me to the point of this post...Read more
Life is hectic – I'm pretty sure we can all agree on that – but what are you doing about it? Do you have a daily winding down ritual to help you shake off the stress and pressures of the day, fall asleep faster, and stay asleep longer? If the answer is no, now is the time to start!Read more
While you are on your journey toward, into, and all through peace, many of you may wonder what you're supposed to do with all your anger and anxiety when it arises. Allowing peace to find you does not mean you won't run into stress, grief, situational depression, anger, anxiety, and the like. Over time, you will encounter these feelings less and less, as you learn how to protect yourself from the people, places, and things that generate these sorts of reactions. But, they will never disappear completely. This is life. Shit happens. And then...it un-happens! In the meantime, one of the easiest and best ways to work your way through these sorts of feelings is to write.Read more
