Here at The Gorgeous Girl's Guide, we don't subscribe to a whole lot of fancy-schmancy, new fangled skincare fads and products. Instead, we are drawn to what's natural, organic, inexpensive, tried and true. One such practice is the use of Witch Hazel in our everyday skincare routine.
What is Witch Hazel?
Also known as Winterbloom, Witch Hazel is a plant native to North America and found in parts of Asia. This astringent is made from the leaves and bark of the plant.
What Does It Do?
Witch Hazel has a number of uses, making it one of those things you just need to have around the house at all times. Here's a short list:
- insect bites
- poison ivy
- Has strong antioxidant properties
- Has strong astringent properties
- Kills bacteria living in pores
- Stops cellular damage that can lead to skin cancer
- Prevents signs of aging
- Speeds healing
- Removes excess oil from skin
- Protects against DNA damage
- Protects against tumor growth
- Helps heal:
- skin sores

- cracked skin
- irritated scalp

- and so much more...
How to Add It to Your Daily Facial Routine:
After cleaning your skin with either a soap cleanser, oil pulling, or steam, spray Witch Hazel onto your face and neck. When nearly dry, follow-up with your moisturizer, preferably a 100% oil moisturizer, like avocado, almond, or maracuja. Be sure to use alcohol-free, unscented Witch Hazel. If your face becomes irritated or dry throughout the day, spritz on more Witch Hazel and apply a few more drops of oil.
