The funny thing is that, even though I am not a fan of citrus fruit, I am a super fan of citrus juice. However you get your citrus, be sure to get plenty of it. Make sure it's as fresh as you can, and organic if possible. There are plenty of citrus benefits for the body, but I wanted to focus solely on the skin benefits for this quick post.
We all know that citrus contains lots of healthy Vitamin C, but did you know that Vitamin C aids in collagen production? Studies show that people who consume foods high in Vitamin C have fewer wrinkles , and less age-related dry skin than people who bypass citrus and other foods high in the vitamin.
You can also use citrus fruit, like oranges and lemons, to clean and exfoliate your skin. It clears all old, dead skin cells and shrinks pores to leave your skin looking clear and glowing. Try adding fresh squeezed citrus into your mask and cleanser.
Lastly, dark spots and pigmentation occur when your skin is exposed to the ultraviolet rays of the sun. The UV rays deplete the antioxidants in your skin, thus causing oxidative damage. The Vitamin C in citrus fruits prevents pigmentation and UV-induced photodamage. For this purpose, you can either consume citrus fruits or apply their juice topically.
So, be sure to pick up a bag of lemons, a few grapefruit, or fresh squeezed citrus juice, and reap the rewards!
