Passion, Purpose, and Your Life's Work (Part One)

One of the most frequent questions I receive from members is, "How do I find my purpose?" It has astounded me how many of us, even though we have begin our careers and our families, still feel as if we have not understood our purposes in life. It is a question for the ages, and the answer may seem like a simple one, but the fact o the matter is that the answer cases many more questions.

Define Your Passion

The road to discovering your purpose begins with defining your passion. This will be the subject matter you think about often, talk about, go out of your way to get involved in and research. Your passion is what you would do even if you weren't being paid or told. It's your preferred hobby. It's the thing you find yourself doing or researching on your days off, and it's the thing you wish you were doing instead of what you're doing now. You know so much about this topic, you surprise (sometimes bore) your friends and family with random facts about it. It's such a part of you that you don't even recognize it as a passion. It's just what you love!

The Next Step

None of us will have just one passion our whole lives. Over the years, passions evolve, multiply, and oftentimes intermingle. So, don't feel overwhelmed if there are several things you care about, deeply. Make a short list of your hobbies and interests, and then, choose the one you care about the most, right now. Choose the one you gravitate to the most, the one you research and know the most about. This will be the beginning seed of what is to be your purpose.
