Review: Acure Lemongrass Clarifying Shampoo

Recently, I made a switch and just in time for our Fourth Annual Make Over Month.

For the past several years, I have been using Abba Haircare systems and have achieved amazing results with their Moisturizing Shampoo and Conditioner.

I love them!

However, Abba recently changed their formula and added soy. I'm not an opponent of soy but "over 90% of soy beans grown in the US are genetically modified," according to recent reports. So, I try to limit my intake of soy and that includes anything I put on my skin, since the skin absorbs about 65% of everything you put onto it, including your scalp. Plus, the other changes in Abba's formula bummed me out overall and I was ready to use something cleaner, organic, and fair trade.

Enter Acure.

I visited my local Whole Foods and picked up two different kinds of Acure Organics shampoo and conditioner for $10 per 8 ounce tube. This post is about my findings on their Lemongrass and Argan Stem Cell clarifying system.

My hair tends to produce a lot of natural oils, which is great for hair growth. I wrap my hair every night and tend to leave it wrapped during the day if I find myself just lounging or working around the house. This also promotes my natural oils, therefore hair growth. Plus, I work out everyday (also with my hair wrapped) and we all know what that does for oil production, not to mention the sweat. So, I wash my hair every 3 days, which my hair loves! I have seen a significant amount of growth since my last big chop over a year ago.

Anywho, having a healthy shampoo and conditioner is a major part of having healthy hair and though Abba was pretty healthy stuff, Acure is a step above.

A good clarifying champ works wonders for all that oil buildup and especially for those who use styling and finishing products, which I don't. But, most if not all clarifying shampoos tend to be drying and you will find yourself following up with a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner to put back some of the oils stripped away while clarifying.

But not with Acure.

Their clarifying system contains a perfect balance of cleaning agents and light, moisturizing oils. And take a look at those ingredients! Plus, Acure is:

  • color safe
  • vegan
  • gluten free
  • sulfate free
  • paraben free
  • phthalate free
  • cruelty free

This organic, natural, and fair trade system is safe to use everyday, for those who need it, but I will be switching between this and Acure's moisturizing system with Moroccan Argan Stem Cell and Argan Oil.

My review on that system is next.
