The Purge of 2017: Mornings

The new year is just about a month away, and we are entering the second month of our Q4 Clean-Up. And with the Thanksgiving holiday behind us, and the Christmas and Hanukkah holidays ahead,  it is time to purge. It's time to let go. Whether it be family, friends, bad personal habits and relationships, financial irresponsibility, or professional dissatisfaction, it's time for you to shift and shift, again. Purging, however, isn't just about doing away with things, people, and habits –– it's also about adding new, healthier ones. Here are a few tips you should consider adding to your morning routine.


Good Morning:

Each morning is a way to start all over, again. It is a chance to be and do better than the day before, to count each new victory, and start each day in gratitude. Mornings are important. The way you begin your day, marks how the rest of your day will go, so you want to be sure to start your day off right.

  • Set Your Alarm: If you're anything like me, you don't really need an alarm, but why chance it? Setting an alarm is a safeguard against oversleeping and having to start your day in a rush. Be sure to set your alarm 15 to 30 minutes before you actually need to get out of bed. This will help you avoid anxiety, and will allow you to ease out of bed and into your day. Lastly, never use an alarming alarm. Natural sounds like running water or chirping birds are a gently way to walk up, as are sounds of calming, instrumental music. If you are an iPhone user, set the special bedtime alarm in the clock app, to help you set your waking time and a pleasantly gentle sound to help you wake up with ease
  • Stretch and Breathe: Once you are out of bed, the first thing you should do is stretch and breathe. Set aside just 3 to 5 minutes to pay attention to your body and to ground yourself. These stretches don't have to be anything fancy or contrived –– just the basic stretches you learned in grade school PE. The important part is that you stay present in this moment and take deep, meaningful  breaths. Feel your muscles stretching, and waking up from the night's slumber. Breathe through your nose and out through your mouth, being sure to fill your lungs with air, fully, before exhaling.
  • Exfoliating Gloves: In the shower or bath, at the beginning of your day, you absolutely must use exfoliating gloves. Physically, they scrub away the dirt, oil, dead skin, and environmental elements from the day and/or the day before. Symbolically, these gloves scrub away so much more. As you scrub your body with these gloves and an organic and/or non-toxic soap, imagine you are scrubbing away all that is old, all the happened on the days before, and all the unsure or upset feelings you've had because of those things. Scrub it all away before you start your day.
  • Maca Root: Whether you're a breakfast person or a green juice on-the-go type of girl, add a teaspoon of Maca Root to your morning routine. Stir it into your coffee, tea, juice, or smoothie for a boost of energy and much more. My favorite ay to use Maca Root, each day, as most of you know, is in a Cacao-Maca Latte.


If you can fit in atleast 15 minutes of exercise –– do it! Starting your day with physical activity is the absolute best way to get the endorphins, energy, and structure you need to have a successful 24 hours.
