I have learned two important things in my first fall in NYC: (1) Layers are everything. Every time I walk out the door, I grab another layer. And I never regret it! (2) Comfortables shoes are the only way to go. Even celebrities don't walk around NYC in heels!
How I Dress Comfortably, Warmly & Stylishly:
Remember the post I did on finding designer pieces on consignment? If not reread it here: How to shop designer on a budget.
This jacket is Celine. It originally sold for $1800. I bought it for $280, and it is in great condition. Consignment pieces are great because they are higher quality pieces, but mainly because they are always from previous seasons. They are not in stores now. No one else will have it! Which allows you to have a truly unique style.
In the outfit below I am wearing two consigned pieces. That jacket I got in LA at Decades store for $100. It doesn't have a label so I do not know who made it. It is a comfortable moto style jacket, with a sparkle sheen to it that I am obsessed with. Underneath the jacket I am wearing a Nina Ricci lace cardigan. I got it for $30 - it originally sold at Bergdorf Goodman for $1600. I wear it under everything.
I am happy to live in a time where leggings and sneakers are considered fashionable. With as much walking as you do in this city, it has to be a very special night for me to wear heels. VERY special.
Most days you can find me in a simple outfit with a cool jacket + shoes. Make sure you have your staple statement items, that way you can dress up any outfit! Without that jacket and my J's, my look would be very basic. Every item in your closet doesn't have to be an investment, 75% can be very simple. 25% statement pieces that reflect your style.
I am not much of a Jordans girl - I had to ask my boyfriend what number the ones I have on even are! But let me tell you, they are comfortable and practical shoes. Just don't get them dirty ;)
Do you feel like you have the right clothes, but don't know how to pair them? We can help you!! We style over Facetime & Skype, for as little as $20! Check us out www.theoncallstylist.com.
I am a stylist. I have worked in the industry since I was 18, starting as a wardrobe intern on The Ellen Show. I was paid in sneakers. Since then, I have worked with all of your favorite celebrities. And as exciting as that is, it isn’t ever as fulfilling as helping my friends get dressed for a date or special occasion.
To me, style = confidence. If you feel like you look incredible and sexy, that will shine through. If you feel frumpy, that’ll show as well.
I started my company, The On Call Stylist, because I want everyone to have the luxury of a personal stylist. For just $20, Facetime me from your closet and I will help you use what you already own to get dressed. You can then walk into any meeting/date/interview/regular day, the most confident version of yourself!
