How to Shop Designer on a Budget

How to Shop Designer on a Budget

Have you ever wondered what these people do who wear head to toe designers every single day? I know I did. The past couple years, I have discovered the secret. And now, I am one of those people!

There are many ways to purchase designer items at affordable prices. Outlets, sales, etc. My personal two favorites are consignment stores & Shopstyle.

Shopstyle.com is a serious GEM in the world of shopping. It is where I go whenever my clients want a specific item or designer. The site will pull up every online store that is selling whatever item you search. That way, if you are looking for something that is selling out quickly, you can find different sizes or prices very easily & quickly. And that is not even the best part! They have a 'set sale alert' function. When you create an account with their site (for free), you can find the Chanel jacket you are obsessed with and set a sale alert. As soon as the item goes on sale, you will receive an email. How amazing is that?

Consignment stores are essentially high-end, used clothing. However, they do not sell pieces that are very worn. Most items seem brand new at purchase.  People who buy everything as soon as it comes out and then never or rarely wear it, send it into a consignment store and make profit off of its sale. The great thing is, every item sells for at MOST 1/2 of what is was purchased for. So, if you have been feigning for a certain Jimmy Choo, but it is way out of your price range,  you may be able to find it on consignment for 50% off the initial price (sometimes, way more). I got a Victoria Beckham lace shirt that cost $1300 at retail for $40. NO JOKE.

Here is a list of the top 5 online consignment stores:

1. Ina NYC - My favorite consignment store. Imagine all the women in NYC & the type of clothes they get rid of! They put some of their items online.

2. Trend Lee  - Exclusively resells designer hand bags.

3. The Real Real  - My personal favorite. The quality and pricing can be very discounted, which is great for the budget conscious yet fashion hungry women like me!

4. Snob Swap - Carries consignment for men & women.

5. Vestiaire Collective  -  They have a large variety of consignment as well, from mens to womens to kids.

Nothing is impossible. My friend was dying for these Nina Ricci lace overalls from a few seasons ago. They sold for $2800 at Bergdorfs, & she just found them on The Real Real for $200. Never feel like you can't get what you want, it just might take some patience.

The On Call Stylist

I am a stylist. I have worked in the industry since I was 18, starting as a wardrobe intern on The Ellen Show. I was paid in sneakers. Since then, I have worked with all of your favorite celebrities. And as exciting as that is, it isn’t ever as fulfilling as helping my friends get dressed for a date or special occasion.

To me, style = confidence. If you feel like you look incredible and sexy, that will shine through. If you feel frumpy, that’ll show as well.

I started my company, The On Call Stylist, because I want everyone to have the luxury of a personal stylist. For just $20, Facetime me from your closet and I will help you use what you already own to get dressed. You can then walk into any meeting/date/interview/regular day, the most confident version of yourself!
