Being unable to get to sleep and stay asleep is the worst, especially when it snowballs into a routine, and what seems to be a never-ending cycle of sleepless nights and listless mornings. But, sleep debt is more than annoying, it is dangerous and potentially deadly for those who operate heavy machinery, including driving a car. So, digging yourself out of this sort of sleep debt is about more than dark circles under your eyes or being cranky at work –– this is about your overall health, well-being, and safety. Let's take it seriously.
First, I want you to revisit our post of all the ways I maintain restful sleep, and incorporate all those steps. They are effective for everyday sleeping habits, though they may not be powerful enough to battle serious insomnia. Still, it's good to have this foundation to benefit your future sleeping habits.
Next, try Deep Sleep drops from Herbs Etc. You can find this product at Vitacost, Whole Foods, and the like. It also comes in an alcohol free formula, if you'd prefer. This is an herbal formula, which is much different than a hormonal remedy, like Melatonin, which many people report has never worked for them, or stopped working over time.
This product needs a little bit of time to build up in your system and become most effective, so be patient. You will see best results by the third night.
To use, drink 30 drops (one dropper) of Deep Sleep in about 1 ounce of water, an hour before bed, and again right before you go to sleep. Also, try preparing one more glass on the mixture and keeping it by your bedside just in case you wake up in the middle of the night and find it hard to get back to bed.
BONUS TIP: For iPhone users, imply your Bedtime alarm in the Clock section of your phone. You can set it up to remind you when to get ready for bed, and when to wake you up. It utilizes a different set of sounds than the regular alarm. I like the chirping birds. It's an easy, beautiful way to be coaxed awake. Good luck!
