How to Save Money and Earn Travel Points While You Shop

This Q4 Clean-Up, there's lots to get ready for as we barrel toward the new year. But, before we get to January, there will be holidays to prepare for. Whether we like it or not, most of us will be shopping for gifts in the next month or two, spending money we may or may not be able to afford. But, there is a science to shopping, and to doing it in a way that doesn't seem like a waste.

Sign Up for Frequent Flyer Miles:

  1. Log on to American Airline's website and sign up for AAdvantage, their frequent flier program.

Shop Through Your Frequent Flyer Store:

  1. When you're ready to shop online, log into American Airline's AAdvantage eShopping store.

Use Promotional Codes:

  1. Open a new window and hop over to Retail Me Not.

Here's How It Works:

Log into your frequent flyer store, and pick the store where you wish to shop. For example, let's say you want to buy a new iPad from the Apple Store, which may be offering 2 points for every dollar spent. Perfect!

Once you choose the store and click on it, you will be directed to the Apple Store's website and shop as usual. Just before check out, open another window and check for a promotional code that may help you save money on your purchase. If there is a code, add it to your checkout page, pay, and be done!

If your purchase was, let's say $500, you would have earned 1000 frequent flyer miles!

Be sure to check around for the best price and the best promotions. If you can't find a code for that iPad at Apple, check for promotional codes for other retailers who carry iPads, like Best Buy, Fry's, and Target, for example.
