12 Tips for Gorgeous Skin: Tip 9: Go to Sleep, Dammit!
Restoration and Preparation:
Anyone who knows anything about me and the basis of The Gorgeous Girl's Guide knows I am a huge supporter or rest, relaxation, and long, restorative nights of sleep.
So many people get it all wrong and miss the entire purpose of sleep when they say things like, "I'll sleep when I'm dead," or "Sleep is the cousin of death." The truth of the matter is that not sleeping properly and enough can bring you closer to your death. So, if you want to be more effective, sharper, and even more beautiful, you absolutely need sleep––and lots of it!
It's about restoration and preparation. Your body restores and repairs itself when you are sleeping, and it is that restoration that prepares you for all the things that come your way while you're awake. Your skin is part of that restoration; the more sleep you get, the better your skin will look!
How I Get to Sleep:
I have developed a ritual that really works for me, one that helps me sleep and stay asleep throughout the night, and it goes a little something like this:
The Constant Circulation of Cool Air:
I couldn't sleep without my fan, not even in the winter months. Close to my bed, there is a tower fan with a remote control that I use to keep the air circulation and cool throughout the day and night, while I'm asleep. Its cool breezes are soothing and help me fall asleep, fast.
A Deluxe Sleep Mask:
Block out light and apply just the right amount of pressure across the bridge of your nose to help you fall asleep and stay asleep with the perfect sleep mask. As someone who wakes up at the slightest sliver of light, I can't sleep without a sleep mask and I have gone through several sorts. I find that the more passed the mask, the better. And it absolutely has to have an adjustable velcro strap.
Meditation Music or Speech:
On the nights when I find it really hard to wind down, meditation music or speech recordings help me drift off. I have music recordings in an old iPod that I keep in my iPod deck, beside my bed. Also, I really like this particular Deepak Chopra speech and music meditation combo.
A Comfortable Mattress with Toppers:
I sleep a comfortable pillow top mattress, but it isn't very supportive. So, I added a 4-inch Serta Foam Topper, which supports my back much better and is extremely comfortable. In the winter months, I add a Featherbed Topper for added comfort and warmth. Having the right mattress and even the right toppers can and will make all the difference in your sleep experience. Don't skimp in this department. A good night's sleep will make for a more productive day and an overall happier life.
