30-Day Clean Face Challenge
Step 1: Lighten Your Make-Up Kit
Grab your make-up lit and pull these items to the side:
Eyebrow pencil and/or powder
Mascara (false lashes or extensions okay)
Eyeliner pencil and/or powder (optional)
Lip gloss (optional)
These are the only items you are allowed to wear during this 30-Day Challenge. Remove these items for your make-up bag and place them in a new make-up bag, along with any brushes and lash curlers you may need. Then, place your original make-up bag out of sight, preferably under the bathroom sink, all the way in the back of the cabinet, if possible.
At the end of your day, don't wash your face. Instead, steam and wipe it clean with a hot, dark colored washcloth, then moisturize with coconut, avocado, or maracuja oil. When you wake up, apply more moisturizer to the face, without washing or steaming it. Then, apply your partial make-up.
To serve as inspiration, here is a photo of me wearing just eyebrow powder, mascara, blush, and lip balm. Yes, my skin is damn near flawless but it wasn't always like that, and the first step to beautiful skin is allowing it to breath, heal, and eat! Now, let me show you how to make that happen!
Step 2: Replace Your Current Skincare Products
As soon as you can, purchase the Juice Beauty Blemish Clearing Solutions Kit for just $40. This will be your introduction to the brand and products that put me on the path to better beauty and better health. These juice-based products are 98% organic, with plenty of USDA certified organic products. They will change the way you see beauty and your skin by feeding it from the outside, which only makes sense because 65% of everything you put on your skin is absorbed by it and your other organs.
For those of you who wish to bypass the kit and jump right in to deluxe sized products, here are my recommendations, as well as a chance to win a Juice Beauty Giveaway.
Step 3: Change Your Diet Immediately
Starting today, you are going to change your diet. There is no time to ween you off of the fatty, processed, and fast foods you may have come to love. Today is the day!
Luckily, none of these recommendations are hardcore. All we're doing is focusing on fresh food, cooked at home. Naturally, portion control is key. Small meal portions weighing one pound or less are recommended, three times a day. Natural and nutritional snacking is recommended between meals, at least three times a day. I recommend purchasing food from a health conscious food store (Whole Foods, Sprouts, Fresh and Easy, etc.) where you will find healthier brands and products.
Here are a few meal ideas that can help you get on the road to better eating and drinking habits, right away:
Recommended: Skip this meal and opt for a fresh green juice, instead
Recommended: Skip this meal and opt for a protein-rich smoothie, instead
Avocado with sea salt
2 liters of water within 24 hours
2 liters of lemon water within 24 hours
Recommended: Electrolyte and/or alkaline water
ABSOLUTELY NO sodas, bottles juices, vitamin waters, drink mixes, colored or favored waters, etc. Bottled veggie/cleansing juices are okay when fresh juice is not available.
Step 4: Remove Toxins From Your Home, Bath and Body
You've probably never considered this before, but since your skin absorbs at least 65% of everything it comes into contact with, what does that mean for your detergents and other household and bath and body products? I'll tell you what it means. It means that all the poisons, cancer causing carcinogens, sulphates, and even worse things that make up your laundry detergent, dish soap, body wash, deodorant, lotions, shampoos, conditioners, hand soap, fabric softener, and basically everything in your home, are all killing you. The less toxins you but in and around your body, the less toxins your body has to try to expel, including through your skin.
Bath and Body:
Sign up for a free trial supply of The Honest Company's Essentials Bundle and pay just $5 for shipping. When you're ready to receive your first shipment for just $35.95, I recommend the following items for your first order. These will help you get started on the road to better, clearer skin:
Non-Toxic Body Wash
Organic Baby Powder
Organic Body Oil
Remember, you literally live in a skin suit. Your skin is the largest organ of the body and even though your facial skin behaves differently than your armpit skin or your scalp, it's all the same skin, and poisoning one part of the skin, poisons all parts of the skin.
Next month, when ordering from The Honest Company, move on to some of their home cleaning products. Each month, change the items of your bundle (you are allowed 5-8 items) and over time, you will have a home free of toxic products!
For your hair, I recommend Acure Organics. There is also lots to choose from for your skin, face, and body. Please feel free to try anything from this company and let us know, in the comments, how you like them! In the interim, I highly recommend their shampoos and conditioners. There will be more on haircare on the appropriate blog during the remainder of Make Over Month, but I felt it important to point out that what you put in your hair and on your scalp, carries to your face. Skin is skin! Using cleaner, organic products will help cut down on breakouts.
Step 5: Sleep a Full Eight Hours
When we sleep, our bodies get a chance to repair themselves from the day's events and elements. The longer you sleep, the more repairing can be done. So, in order for your skin to repair and your cells to renew, you need to be asleep! We'll talk more about this during Make Over Month, with tips to help you get a better, longer night's sleep.
